4 Scrapbooking Pen Tips You Will Want To Try

4 Scrapbooking Pen Tips

Today is all about the pens! Creative Memories just released an awesome pen set bundle and I got to play with them a little bit over the weekend. Here are 4 scrapbooking pen tips you can use!

4 Scrapbooking Pen Tips

1 – Know Your Different Pen Types

Creative Memories has a few different pen types, and each type is great for different jobs, which is why I’m making it one of our 4 scrapbooking pen tips!

Dot Pens have a different tip on each end. Dot pens come with an end to create…dots! The longer you hold the dot side to the page, the bigger the dot. The other end of the pen has a finer tip for journaling or detailing.

Dual Tip pens are just like they sound. They are more like your traditional markers and pens. One end is like a narrow marker that you can use to color or write in thicker handwriting, while the other end is also a finer tip for journaling.

Creative Memories also has Micro Tip Pens, which are perfect for writing in the smallest handwriting, as they have the finest tip. Presently, you can get those in 3 basic colors.

Be sure to get your hands on all of these pen types so you can have a well-rounded collection to keep your pages journaled and fun!

2 – Label Their Colors in Their Color

One thing I did was label my pens with their color names, because one thing that irks me is that I can’t find the names of their colors anywhere on them.

I simply took a scrap piece of printer paper, wrote each of their color names on it in their own colors, and used packaging tape to stick it on.

Whenever I’m selecting a pen color, I like to see how it will look on paper, so this was also helpful for that. For the Dot Pens, I also made a couple of dots to see how the dots look.

I realize that this may wear off over time, but if so, I’ll just update. This saves tons of time when I’m trying to find the right color for my pages.

3 – Use Your Pens For More Than Journaling

One thing that I love about the Creative Memories’ pens is that they come in all sorts of colors and have different thickness, meaning you can create lots of things with them.

The Dot Pens provide a fun way to add some art to your scrapbook page or cards with little effort or artistic ability. All you have to do is hold the point on the page to make a large dot, or tap it quick for a smaller one.

I have drawn circles around my cutting patterns with pens, then added dots to accent around.

Don’t forget to use them for drawing if you are into that and love to sketch. I’m not great at that, but I did add dots to this festive layout once to give my Christmas pages a different look:

It’s a great set of pens and the roll up storage comes with the bundle of 12 new colors. They are PASTEL colors, so they are lighter, but I am excited to do some shading work with them! It gives more options for adding some art to your pages and truly making your layouts your own.

4 – Store Your Pens Properly

A final tip in our 4 scrapbooking pen tips post is one I see done improperly all of the time.

If you are working with Dual-Tipped Pens, as most of Creative Memories’ pens are, be sure you are storing them horizontally. This will keep your ink going for longer and prevent one side from drying up faster than the other.

If you are working with a single-sided pen, where it only can write from one end, then horizontally or stored with the tip down will be just fine.

The Fabric Pen Organizer holds 15 pens and you can load it up with whichever pens you want to bring to a crop. Just load it up and throw it in your bag. It fits great in the Small Flex POD too! I like the Small Flex POD for sorting my Duel Tip and Dot Tip pens so I can easily find the type I want.

Be sure to find a storage solution that works for you, but also be sure that it allows your pens to be stored properly. I just store all of my pens horizontally so I don’t have to worry when they are all together in one storage container.
