Week 8 – Hiking the Inky Meadow Trail
We have reached the gorgeous Inky Meadow Trail on our summer’s journey through scrappy techniques! I’m so excited for a week of playing with inks with you all! You will find that the pages and techniques we embrace this week are not too difficult and hopefully you can begin to embrace some new inking and brushing techniques for your pages going forward!

Challenge 22 – Use #ScrappyHike22
Our first technique with inking is oh, so fun! We are going to be “painting” with our ink by rubbing the ink pad right on our layout!
Sounds scary, eh?
For this layout, I literally just took a piece of white cardstock that is 12″ x 6″, then rubbed the ink pads in lines along it. Then, I cut it diagonally and placed in on another piece of white cardstock that is my base.
So easy, and so fun!
For this challenge, you do NOT need to create your layout like mine. All you have to do is create a layout that has the ink pad rubbed on it somewhere. It can be in a line, or in another shape you get creative with!
My tip – PRACTICE on a piece of scrap paper you don’t care about first!

Challenge 23 – Use #ScrappyHike23
For our next leg of the journey, we are going to practice putting on some ink with our brushes! Ink is a great way to add extra flair to your page by simply brushing it on.
In this challenge, you need to brush ink on your page to add enhancements behind the embellishments and/or photos on your layout.
This layout was so easy to create, especially since all I had to do was find a base sheet, brush on the coordinating inks, mat and layer my photos, and add embellishments.
You will definitely want to watch the video below as I show you tips for adding the ink to your page. There are some key tips that will help you with creating perfect ink balance on your page.
As always with any of these ink techniques, you will want to practice them on a scrap piece of paper before you put them directly on your layout.

Challenge 24 – Use #ScrappyHike24
For our final leg of the journey this week, we are playing with the technique of using inks to help our photo mats stand off the page.
I used 2 techniques for doing this in my example, and I encourage you to use both in your layout to satisfy the challenge requirements.
For one of the ways to do this, you will use your ink and brush to apply the ink along the edge of the photo’s mat. This is what I did for the circle photo on my page here. This will work much like you did with applying the ink in challenge 23. It creates a different, brushed looked ink along the photo mat.
For the other way I used ink to help my photo mats stand off the page, I used the ink pad directly along the edge of the mat. Simply rub the pad along the edge until you have the thickness of ink you like.
This technique is not hard at all, and I use it all the time to enhance my layouts, so I hope you can use these again and again with your inks!
Again, your layout doesn’t have to look exactly like mine, but you do have to use both of these techniques on your page for it to count. The instructions below are just an overview of the challenge requirements, along with how I did do my page if you want to copy it. Have fun!
